TMV Annual Testing
TMV's or Thermostatic Mixing Valves are installed where there is the possibility of getting burnt by scalding hot water. They are usually found in early learning centers and retirement/special care villages. TMV's are required to be inspected and serviced annually, and a major service carried out every five years by a plumber with a separate TMV license.
Mr. Nice is fully licensed and insured to test all TMV devices and lodge all the relevant paperwork.
If you have a TMV, feel free to call Mr. Nice to have a chat about it, or book in a test.
A Mr. Nice Guide
When you turn on a tap or shower, you expect warm water that’s safe and steady — not scalding one second and freezing the next. That’s the job of a thermostatic mixing valve (TMV): it blends hot and cold water to a safe, consistent temperature.
TMVs are essential in places like hospitals, aged care facilities, schools, gyms, and commercial premises where water safety is critical. But like any mechanical device, they need regular testing to keep performing correctly.

What is a TMV?
A thermostatic mixing valve regulates the hot water temperature to ensure it doesn’t exceed safe levels (typically around 45–50°C depending on the setting). It reacts quickly to changes in water pressure or temperature, preventing scalding and keeping users safe.

Why TMV Testing Matters
-
Safety – Protects vulnerable people (children, elderly, or those with reduced sensitivity to temperature) from burns.
-
Compliance – Health and safety regulations require TMVs to be tested annually by a licensed plumber.
-
Performance – Ensures the valve continues blending water accurately and reacts properly to fluctuations.
-
Peace of Mind – Guarantees your hot water system is safe, reliable, and fully documented.

How We Test TMVs
Step 1: Inspection
We check the valve and surrounding pipework for leaks, wear, or damage.
Step 2: Temperature Testing
Using calibrated thermometers, we measure outlet temperatures to confirm they remain within safe, regulated limits.
Step 3: Performance Check
We test the valve’s response by simulating changes in hot or cold supply to ensure it reacts quickly and shuts down if needed.
Step 4: Cleaning & Servicing
If required, we strip and clean the valve internals, replacing seals or filters to restore smooth performance.
Step 5: Certification
We issue a compliance certificate and record results for submission to the relevant authority — keeping you up to date with regulations.
