Gas Leaks & Installations

If you can smell gas anywhere on your property we recommend calling Mr. Nice as soon as possible. Not only can a gas leak be costing you money, but if has the potential to be harmful or even fatal. Gas leaks are usually caused by worn out, or incorrectly installed fittings and are usually easy to rectify once located using our bubble leak diagnostic equipment. Alternatively, if you want a new gas line installed for your BBQ, oven, cook top, water heater or room heater Mr. Nice would love to help you cook more easily and stay warm and cosy in winter.

A Mr. Nice Guide

Gas is a marvellous servant but a dangerous master. It cooks our food, warms our water, and heats our homes — but when it escapes unnoticed, it poses serious risks to health and safety. At Mr. Nice Plumbing, we treat gas with the respect it deserves: careful installation, prompt detection, and thorough repair.

Signs of a Gas Leak

Gas leaks can be subtle, but they often give themselves away if you know what to look (or smell) for:

  • Smell: The distinctive “rotten egg” odour (added by suppliers to make leaks detectable).

  • Sound: Hissing or whistling noises from pipe joints or appliances.

  • Sight: Bubbles in soapy water when applied to fittings, or plants inexplicably dying near underground lines.

  • Health Symptoms: Headaches, nausea, dizziness, or sudden fatigue when gas is present indoors.

If you suspect a leak, safety comes first: turn off the gas at the meter, ventilate the area, and call a licensed gas fitter immediately.

Common Causes of Gas Leaks

  • Ageing or corroded pipework.

  • Poorly installed or damaged fittings.

  • Faulty appliances such as cooktops, heaters, or hot water systems.

  • Accidental damage to underground gas lines during digging or construction.

Gas Installations

Gas appliances are efficient, reliable, and often cheaper to run than their electrical counterparts. But proper installation is critical to safety and performance.

What we install:

  • Gas cooktops and ovens.

  • Gas hot water systems.

  • Outdoor BBQs, heaters, and fireplaces.

  • Bayonet points for portable heaters.

  • Complete new gas services for renovations or new builds.

How we do it:

  • All installations are carried out to strict Australian Standards (AS/NZS 5601).

  • We pressure-test every line to confirm there are no leaks.

  • We commission appliances correctly, ensuring they run safely and efficiently.

  • We provide certification where required, giving you peace of mind that your installation is compliant and safe.
