Leaking Toilets
Running toilets waste a huge amount of water each day, which ends up not only costing you money unnecessarily, but also has the potential to cause water damage to your home. Whether it's continually leaking into the bowl, onto the floor or just leaking sometimes, Mr. Nice will know how to fix it so you can get back to your business.

A Mr. Nice Guide
A toilet that won’t stop running might not seem like an emergency, but it can waste hundreds of litres of water every single day. That’s water down the drain (quite literally) and money out of your pocket. Fortunately, the fix is often straightforward once the cause is tracked down.

Why Toilets Keep Running
Inside every toilet cistern is a small orchestra of moving parts working in harmony. When one falls out of tune, the water keeps flowing. The usual suspects are:
-
Worn Outlet Valve – The valve that seals the flush outlet can perish or warp, allowing water to trickle constantly into the bowl.
-
Faulty Inlet Valve (Fill Valve) – This controls the refill after a flush. If it fails, the cistern may overfill and spill into the overflow.
-
Float Malfunction – The float tells the inlet valve when the cistern is full. If it’s set too high or gets stuck, the water never knows when to stop.

Signs Your Toilet is Running
-
The sound of water trickling even when no one has flushed.
-
A constantly moving ripple in the toilet bowl.
-
Higher-than-usual water bills with no other explanation.
-
The cistern taking unusually long to refill.

How We Fix Running Toilets
Step 1: Diagnose
We remove the cistern lid and test each component — outlet valve, inlet valve, seals, and float.
Step 2: Repair or Replace
-
A simple seal or washer replacement often restores order.
-
For older or heavily worn cisterns, replacing the outlet or inlet valve provides a longer-term fix.
-
If the entire mechanism is outdated, we may recommend a full cistern repair kit or replacement for efficiency and reliability.
Step 3: Test & Tidy
Once repaired, we test the flush, refill, and shut-off to make sure everything runs smoothly — and then, crucially, stops running.
